I have been asked this question more times than I can count over these past five months, but no one actually knows the true answer to this question. So, I thought for my first post with the launch of the website I should explain the backstory of Splat Sports.
It all started of an October afternoon. Me and my best friend Grant Russell had just started fall break and I was off from football for a couple of days. So, like any two high school boys that love golf, we decided to visit our local golf course. Now, I am not the greatest at golf, but I believe God made the wind blow just a bit harder than it needed to that day. On this particular day I began the round with a bogey (not bad for my standards), but it got much worse than that. As we headed to the second hole; we made the mistake of going on a Tuesday afternoon. The guys in front of us (who I would say average age is around 68) decided that on this faithful Tuesday, it was going to be their masters. I had no problem with this at first, but when you all are playing every hole stroke play, and fist pumping after you four putt it, that is when I got a little irritated. I'm glad these guys were still able to play and move well but they were not great at golf, and for me it hurt my game even more. See when I start playing, I like to try and keep the same rhythm from hole to hole, but today was not that day.
This would end up being a blessing in disguise I suppose, because it allowed for me and Grant to talk. A good bro talk was also needed that day. At the time one of my favorite sports personalities, Pat Macfee, had just signed his huge deal with ESPN at the time, so we talked about how awesome it would be if we could do something like that. For a long time, I had always wanted to make content, I guess from growing up in the golden days of Youtube it left a large impact on my life. So, I had always thought that was my calling, I just needed a co-host. While thinking and talking about this, Grant asked the faithful question, "Do you wanna start a podcast?"
After that we created an Instagram, that way we at least had some skin in the game. We needed a name. We went through a list of names, but they didn't click. I then suggested Splat Sports Network. I had gotten the name from an old Nickelodeon channel block that I grew up watching, the network part had come from idea that we would grow and have more shows. And the rest was history, our first episode came out in November, and we have grown slowly but are learning with each passing day.
As for the future, I like to say that I am open to all ideas, good and bad. So, with that being said, I really don't know what the future looks like, we always have things in the works but some of our best ideas have come from zero planning. And that is what I like about us.
So that is it, I will be writing more about sports stuff now.
