The NFL offseason isn't over yet, but I believe we already have a winner. Pretty crazy considering what I wrote about the team earlier this week. And as I sit here in the middle of the night scrolling X and seeing what all Pittsburgh has done, it's hard to argue against them. So here is my reasoning to why I believe the Steelers have won the offseason.

So, the Steelers entering the offseason had a lot of questions. Are they going to stick with Pickett? What is Arthur Smith going to do with the offense? But they really addressed all of these questions. They really began the offseason with firing Matt Canada and replacing him, Arthur Smith. Solid hire in my opinion, this coming from a Falcons fan that was done watching him coach. Sure, his gameplans were tough to watch, especially when certain players were never used (Kyle Pitts) but with the right players, who knows what this team could do. So, what are the weapons?

The Steelers made some news in their signing of Russel Wilson, which in my opinion, for how much they got him for and his presumed role with the team, not a bad pick up. But how much does Wilson help the team? I think he could bring a veteran leadership to the offseason that is desperately needed. So, what do you do with Pickett, you trade him. The Steelers sent Pickett to the Eagles along with a 4th round pick for a 3rd round pick and 2 2025 7th round picks. Not great for a guy you spent a first round pick on. Well, they made another QB splash. The team acquired Justin Fields from the Bears for a 2025 6th round pick. Huge steal. Although really smart move, the question is now, who starts? I think Wilson will start some and then Fields gets the rest of the starts. I am a big fan of Fields and think a change in scenery will be able to show what kind of player he is capable of being.
Now for the rest of the moves. The Steelers signed Patrick Queen (41 million) to replace Devin Bush, and in my opinion, a really nice get for them. Queen has been underrated from the time he has entered the league with the Ravens, and this deal has a lot of upsides. They also traded their longest tenured WR Diontae Johnson to Carolina for CB Donte Jackson, another underrated player that is full of upside for the team. They also got Van Jefferson as another weapon for whoever the QB is. All good moves in my opinion.

So, what now? Still some holes to be filled, especially in the receiving area. But with the picks they have gotten through these trades I feel like they can't miss talent heading into this draft. The real concern that I have is, who is going to start? Like early I said Wilson will start early, but, what if you get Denver Wilson instead of the Seattle Wilson that team thinks they have. Plus, we haven't seen Fields play to his true potential and you replace the entire QB room. So, you truly have a brand-new offense heading into 2024. So, all these moves put the team in a better position than they were in last year. That why I believe the Steelers have won the offseason.
