Hunter | WrestleMania Review

Published on 8 April 2024 at 20:04

A new era has been ushered in and it started off with a bang. WrestleMania 40 took place in the city of brotherly love over this past weekend, and it being advertised as the biggest WrestleMania ever, questions began to arise over if it would live it to it. In my opinion, it did more than live up to it. So, lets rate every match from the card. The ranking will go from F-S.

Night 1

Becky Lynch v. Rhea Ripley

What a match to kick off the show of shows. The match was everything you would have expected. It was good and clean wrestling from both women. With the story leading up to the match being "can Becky beat Rhea?" The match was able to showcase this. It felt like a heavyweight fight throughout. But it truly did prove why Rhea is so good. I am excited to see where this leads Rhea with her retaining. But I am truly more intrigued with what Becky does now. It feels like she doesn't have anyone to go against on the raw roster. Overall, the match was flat out great.

Six-pack Ladder Match

Ladder matches and WrestleMania go hand in hand, and this one definitely delivered. With fans wanting the titles split, I felt like they had to. There is so much tag team talent on each side of the roster and having just one team hold all the gold just didn't feel right. As for the match, it was just fun. Highflying action left and right, tables being broken, and just good wrestling. What more could you want. Johnny Gargano's ddt through the table was amazing. I felt like DIY should have won the raw titles but R-Truth getting his flowers was great to see. As for A-Town Down Under, the team should be fun to see especially being a heel group. They also have great opponents like AOP and The Street Profits.

Rey Mysterio & Andrade v. Santos Escobar & Dominik Mysterio

Lucha Libre is alive and well and has a great future in WWE. Thats what I felt like this match was made to showcase. With the younger guys getting their moment and Rey having another great WrestleMania match under his belt. So, you can't complain about what we were given with the match. It was short and sweet. Sure, the part with the Eagles coming out for the hometown pop wasn't needed but it didn't affect the match too much.

Jey Uso v. Jimmy Uso

Man, this is the one match from both nights that just missed the boat. The story was there, so, what went wrong? Well, the match was boring, like extremely boring. It needed a stipulation, like a Hell in a Cell match. Between the many superkicks and laying on the mat, it felt like the match never got off the mat. It was to slow after he action that was seen in the previous 2 matches. Glad they got their match together but it ws just disappointing.

Bianca Belair, Naomi, and Jade Cargill v. Damage CTRL

This was fun. Jade Cargill showed why she is the star of the future and she showed that she has now entered the conversation for the women's titles. As for Bianca, this match shows why she has been at the top of the game for a while. It was also nice seeing Naomi being back at WrestleMania. As for Damage CTRL, eh, nothing truly happened for them, and it was kind of boring from their end. I thought this match would exceed expectations, but it didn't.

GUNTHER v. Sami Zayn

It felt like Sami was the wrong person to dethrone Gunther, I thought it should have been Gable. But man, I love Sami during this match. This was just great wrestling from 2 great wrestlers. Between Sami having to hype himself up and build his confidence through the match, to Gunther trying beat Sami till he quits. This match was great. I'm glad Sami won, and Gunther can move on to bigger and better things.

The Rock & Roman Reigns v. Seth Rollins & Cody Rhodes

The match with the biggest story and implications, and it paid off. I didn't know how The Rock would do in this match but man, he proved he can still wrestle. Sure, he looked tried and slipped a couple of times, but he hung with Rollins and Rhodes. As for Roman, just another great match from him with no complaints. Rollins and Rhodes really never had a shot to begin with in this match it felt like. They got beat up and then some more. He hurt watching them get constantly beat up but as for the story it was awesome. The only part of the match I didn't like was the finish, it was too simple and ended too quickly. Would have loved to see them fight it out a bit more.

Night 2

Seth Rollins v. Drew Mclntyre

Another great match to open the show. Between the entrances and the wrestling, what more could you want? I felt bad for Seth, he had carried that title and set a standard for it, and it was hard to see it go. Drew was the perfect guy for that title but with the cash in. It made it even better in my opinion, this can set up multiple feuds for the future. And with CM Punk costing Drew, man this was fun.

The Final Testament v. Bobby Lashley and The Street Profits

What I thought was just going to a match to get people on the card and have a simple stipulation. This was the surprise of the night. This was just fun for everyone involved and honestly great. Between Bubba Ray being the guest ref and The Street Profits being The Street Profits. This is what you want in what you would call a filler match in this card.

Logan Paul v. Randy Orton v. Kevin Owens

Logan Paul can wrestle. This was a great match for Logan proving that he can beat 2 top guys while having a great match. Randy was in vintage form and Owens was having fun as usual. Of course, the Prime Bottle had to make an appearance which is getting old, but with it being speed, it made it a bit better.

LA Knight v. AJ Styles

YEAH! I loved this match. It was good ole fashion wrestling. A great story too. It was awesome to watch LA Knight in his first ever Mania match. As for AJ, even though he is getting older, he still got it. I loved the pace of this match, because it felt really quick but was a long match too. This was great for both men and I can't wait to see what comes next for both of them.

Iyo Sky v. Bayley

I felt like this match should have been a main event but the match felt like it. Lots of action, a play of injury, and a play on emotions. I'm glad Bayley got her moment in all of this Mania, and it was great to see. Iyo proved that she could do just about anything in the ring and make it look good.  Bayley now gets a massive title reign ahead of her.

Roman Reigns v. Cody Rhodes

This is how you end a Mania. Appearances from the Usos, Solo, Cena, Rock, Rollins, and The Undertaker. Holy cow, this was great. Roman getting his revenge against Rollins but it costed him. The gong for The Undertaker. The trumpets for Cena. Man, what more could you ask for. As for the match, Roman and Rhodes were at the top of their game respectfully and it proves just how good both of these men are. The story is finished and what more do you want.
