Hunter | Is Jazz the Answer for The Yankees

Published on 27 July 2024 at 16:00

The months of June and July have not been kind to the Bronx Bombers, with a combined record of 20-26 in those months. Questions about if the team can make it to the playoffs are growing, and with some saying that Aaron Boone should be fired a trade was desperately needed. A trade was made today for Jazz Chisholm, the Marlins star was traded for 3 prospect who have not been named yet. But is the what the Yankees needed?

Let's look at what Jazz adds to the roster. Looking at his 2024 stats so far, he is having a pretty good year compared to past years. Batting .249 and with 50 RBIs, you might say that he not having a good year, but he has battled injuries in the past. Jazz's real appeal isn't his hitting it's his defense, he can play just about anywhere and is not a liability. He has mainly been playing in center field with a couple appearances at second base. This is why I believe the Yankees wanted him. The Yankees have been moving guys all around the field and have not had any stability. This has been a major problem for the team. Besides Judge and Soto, it seems as if the rest of the roster is an island of misfit toys. Jazz will help bring some stability to the team wherever they decide to play him. But is he really what the team needed?

Rumors about a trade for the Marlins star had been around for months, reports had stated the team was hesitant due to Jazz's personality. He is an exciting player to watch but, in my opinion, he does not fit New York. Will he have success? I hope. The team really needs a boost of anything, but I don't know if this was the guy. Johnathan India was a possible trade option for the Yankees but with Jazz I think that the ship has sailed. India's asking price is very high, he is playing at a high level, which is why the Yankees didn't want to trade for him. I hope Jazz works out, but they also need pitching. I believe the Yankees could use a boost in the pitching department more than anything. Hitting has been bad, but pitching has fallen off the face of the Earth. Gil and Rodon have struggled, Cole is still trying to get back to normal, and then that's really it. Jazz is nice, but they need to address the bigger issue here.

With the team needing to resign Soto and the rest of the roster is struggling besides Judge. No. 28 looks to be out of reach for this squad. You can't let this much talent go to waste, but Cashman and Boone see no issue. That's why in my opinion, they both need to go. But that's and argument for another day.
